Events – Vocabulary

Drought –> a period of dry weather, especially a long one that is injurious to crops.

Earthquake –> a series of vibrations induced in the earth’s crust by the abrupt rupture and rebound of rocks in which elastic strain has been slowly accumulating.

Global warming –> an increase in the earth’s average atmospheric temperature that causes corresponding changes in climate and that may result from the greenhouse effect.

Hurricane –> a violent, tropical, cyclonic storm of the western North Atlantic,having wind speeds of or in excess of 72 miles per hour.

Tsunami –> an unusually large sea wave produced by a sea quake or under sea volcanic eruption.

Volcanic eruption –>the sudden occurrence of a violent discharge of steam and volcanic material.

Deforestation –> to divest or clear of forests or trees: Poor planning deforested the area in ten years.
